ATD-PH35
Model Description
The ATD-PH35 is a Finite Element (FE) representation of the Child/Small Adult Headform Impactor 3.5 kg hardware. It is a spherical head impactor for pedestrian protection testing.
The impactor is launched toward the windshield and bonnet to evaluate the Head Injury Criterion (HIC) representing the potential head injury to a pedestrian in a vehicle–pedestrian impact.
Some characteristics of the ATD-PH35 are:
- Design: Realistic representation of geometries
- Handling: Designed for launchers/robot arms with magnetic or mechanical coupling/uncoupling
- Standard reference: Child/Small Adult 3.5 kg configuration according to EEVC WG17; derived from WG10 headforms (EuroNCAP)

ATD Model Features
- High accuracy owing to physics-based modeling techniques
- FE models available for industry standard explicit FE codes
- Commonality of modeling standards for FE models
- Uniform discretization, nomenclature and numbering systems
- Same scripts for pre- and post-processing
- Same session file and application procedures
- Full utilization of code-specific features of each solver
Advantages for Users
- Systematic title nomenclature refers to the assembly groups
- Prefix in each title description allows a fast adjustment to the nomenclature of the load case
- Numeration not overlapping the assembly groups
- Advantage in pre- and post-processing
- Allows selection of assembly parts and groups
- Each assembly group close defined for itself
- Definition regarding the master, e.g. contacts relate to the assembly group
